Switzerland was one of the first countries to implement the FATF’s Travel Rule. FINMA, the Swiss regulator, issued its own guidance to VASPs in 2019. The guidance followed the FATF’s Recommendation 16, however with stricter requirements. According to FINMA’s requirements, VASPs need to verify the identity of the beneficiary of the transfer.

Cryptocurrencies are digital assets that are secured by cryptography. As a relatively new technology, they are highly speculative, and it is important to understand the risks involved before investing.

If you want to use cryptocurrency to buy products and services, you will need to visit a cryptocurrency exchange. These are businesses that allow you to buy or sell cryptocurrencies from other users at the current market price, similar to a stock. After buying the coins, you will need to transfer them to a digital wallet or use a third-party service like Coinbase to store your coins.

Memecoins are cryptocurrencies such as DOGE (named after the iconic doge meme) and MOODENG (named after the viral baby pygmy hippo), that were inspired by internet memes. Their performance in the market can be volatile, depending largely on the hype generated by social media trends. But some memecoins have also courted controversy, and celebrities who have touted crypto coins without transparency about their financial incentives have also faced scrutiny and legal action.

It took two weeks for Welch to address the fiasco again. On Friday, she posted on X, acknowledging that a class action lawsuit was in motion. But the suit only names Schultz and So, along with overHere and the Caymans-based Tuah the Moon Foundation. “I take this situation extremely seriously and want to address my fans, the investors who have been affected, and the broader community,” Welch wrote. “I am fully cooperating with and am committed to assisting the legal team representing the individuals impacted, as well as to help uncover the truth, hold the responsible parties accountable, and resolve this matter.” She advised those who had lost money on $HAWK to contact Burwick Law, the firm that filed the suit against Schultz and So, and advertised its services on X in the immediate aftermath of the coin crash.

On Dec. 4, when $HAWK tokens were launched, the meme coin rose to a $490 million market cap, before tanking by 95 percent within minutes to below $100 million. According to reports, investors lost a combined $151,000. The suit also accuses the team of exploiting Welch’s popularity to market the token, claiming insider trading and deceptive promotional practices took place.

Shiba Inu was created by an anonymous developer called Ryoshi in August 2020. It is the latest memecoin. It was created to answer a simple question: “What would happen if a cryptocurrency project was 100% run by its community”.The project was created with the intention of being a fun and friendly alternative to other more serious cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. It has become popular for its Doge-like mascot, which is based on the Shiba Inu dog breed that’s popular in Japan. The Shiba Inu ecosystem consists of three tokens: Shiba Inu (SHIB) which is the project’s foundational currency, the leash (LEASH) which represents the other end of the ecosystem spectrum, and Bone (BONE) which acts as a governance token. The project also offers rewards for people who provide liquidity to specific Shiba Inu pairs, this is called digging. Whenever you provide your token for traders to use, ShibaSwap gives you a liquidity token that proves ownership of that liquidity pool. When a person stakes or locks up his or her liquidity provider tokens it is called burying. By burying LP tokens a person starts earning bones. SHIB’s price soared more than tenfold in October 2021 after Tesla’s founder Elon Musk tweeted a picture of his new Shiba Inu puppy Floki in the first week of October. This generated significant retail investment in the meme token.

It has been speculated that Vitalik Buterin was behind the initial liquidity that helped set up Shiba Inu’s liquidity on Uniswap. According to Ryoshi, he had “a fren” he met at Devcon in Osaka that sent him 10 ETH to set up the liquidity pair on Uniswap. Ryoshi also stated that Shiba Inu was an experiment in decentralized community building, and he thus declined all the influencer requests and pitches from different exchanges he received. His “job” is to defend the brand and give suggestions, although he does so very sparingly, as his last blog entry dates back to May 2021.

However, greater congestion on Ethereum means that transactions can get slower and more expensive in terms of gas fees. As a result, many scaling solutions have been launched that take care of both of these problems.

Haliey Welch, better known as “Hawk Tuah Girl,” is now distancing herself from last December’s failed HAWK memecoin — despite previously calling it a fully compliant, fan-focused token she was proud to launch.

Welch pitched the HAWK cryptocurrency as a community reward for her fan base, but the launch didn’t work as planned. The crypto token price crashed soon after reaching a £373 million ($500 million) market cap, resulting in massive losses for Welch’s fans who invested in the digital asset. Court records showed investors claimed to have lost over £111,917 ($150,000) in the HAWK meme coin.

It’s understood $HAWK token was the victim of a ‘rug pull’, where snipers who buy the asset where it’s cheaper and instantly sell it where it’s more expensive end up making a huge profit, according to CoinMarketCap.

However, in a new interview with Vanity Fair, she’s also addressing the explosive cryptocurrency fallout that not only saw fans turn on her, but caused her to leave the internet following her viral fame.
